Artes Magnus has been publishing limited editions for the table by outstanding contemporary artists since 1989. Based in New York, Artes Magnus is owned by contemporary art collectors, Richard and Barbara Lane and William Ehrlich and Ruth Lloyds. Various artists are approached by them and given free rein to create an object, with the only stipulation being that it is functional and for the table. The results have been outstanding with eighteen projects completed to date by prestigious artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, George Segal, Cindy Sherman and Meyer Vaisman. The edition sizes are kept small, ranging from 25 to 250.
Artes Magnus editions have been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the world. They are available almost exclusively through museum shops, or through the galleries such as Castelli, Sonnabend and Metro Pictures, which represent some of the artists published, or directly from Artes Magnus.
